What started out as a childhood dream of having a fishing TV show, has evolved into a way of life for Captain Mark “Fish” Fischer. In the summer of 2011, he acquired his 6-pack US Coast Guard License to take clients and friends fishing in the esteemed waters off Montauk Point. Fast forward 9 years later to the infamous year of 2020, his early ambitions of filming these fishing excursions changed courses and led to the formation of Stella Outfitters.
You may be wondering where the name Stella came from. In the summer of 2008, Mark’s grandmother, Estelle, was suffering from cancer and his family had just purchased a small boat for their New Hampshire home. The boat didn’t have a name yet, and rumor has it, nameless boats are bad luck. We asked her what the boat should be called and she immediately cried out, STELLA!
Fish has also idolized Navy SEALs since he first learned about them in college, and has made sure that all of Stella Outfitters’ products are the best of the best. Each and every Stella item is engineered to endure the demanding conditions that one inevitably encounters on the water, whether it’s the scorching sun, blistering cold, or relentless saltwater spray.
Fishing is in Captain Mark’s blood. Since he could walk, he’s been catching freshwater and saltwater fish. While Stella Outfitters continues to grow and expand, Mark still runs very successful fishing charters off the coast of Long Island whether it’s with experienced anglers who have been fishing for 30+ years, or a novice’s first time on a boat. Captain Mark says, “There’s nothing better than seeing new faces, and especially young kids, catch fish…you really can’t express how great a feeling it is to see their ear to ear smiles.”
